I worked on the Scarabaeus project as an intern at Ouest Architecture Studio.
The existing spatial situations of the Scarabaeus Cultural Centre are quite unusual. It consists of two buildings facing parallel streets, so the functions could only be linked by opening up an intermediate building. The modest architectural interventions create new spatial, cultural and social opportunities for the neighbourhood.
A few spatial elements are highlighted in the interior design; the bar, the staircase, the kiosque, the curtains, the passage connecting the two buildings, the doors and the wall of the ‘grande salle’, the shading structure of the roof terrace. The aim was to design these objects in a unified way, yet create their own unique character.
