︎ Váci Mihály Primary School  -  Architectural Design Competition - 2nd Place    ︎    Nagykáta, Hungary    ︎    2025

Váci Mihály Catholic Primary School is located in the town of Nagykáta, approximately 60 km southeast of Budapest, Hungary. The school is situated in a small-town residential area with a mix of single-family homes and public buildings. The original school building was heavily damaged in a fire in 2022. The reconstruction aims to revitalize the educational infrastructure of the area while respecting the town's scale and character.
The proposed school building draws inspiration from the traditions of Hungarian educational architecture, particularly the work of Károly Kós and Kamill Kismarty Lechner. The spatial organization responds to 21st-century educational needs by creating "mini-school" units on each floor, fostering smaller, human-scale learning communities. A rich variety of communal spaces, galleries, alcoves, and visually connected environments support creative learning and social interaction. Both the interior and exterior design reflect a playful, discovery-oriented approach inspired by Montessori principles, offering a child-centered setting that enables differentiated development, independent learning, and strong school communities.
