At the request of Habitat for Humanity Hungary, we have been working on a modular system of 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 square metres housing units. The concept allows the residential units to expand side by side or above each other. The focus of the design presented here is the 30 square metre module, whose structural design and spatial system was derived from the assembled, multi-flat version.
The organisation asked us to develop a building construction technology, which could be prefabricated and assembled by volunteers. The concept contains a composite load-bearing system made of timber and wood-based sheets. These segments would both provide the structural frame of the house and incorporate some interior design and mechanical elements. Functionally, the apartment can be divided into two parts. A larger living area, comprising the kitchen, dining and living room. There are smaller service functions on either side of the entrance: a sleeping alcove, hallway and bathroom. The interior spaces have been extended with a terrace.
